Choice and control: what it really means in daily support
Choice and control is one of the founding ideas of the NDIS, but it can sound abstract until you see it in everyday life. In practice it means you decide who supports you, when they come, and how the support is delivered.
It shows up in small moments. Choosing the support worker whose company you enjoy. Deciding whether today is a day for a walk in the community or a quieter morning at home. Speaking up when something is not working and having it change.
Good providers protect that control rather than take it over. That means listening first, offering options rather than instructions, and being honest about what is and is not funded in your plan.
If you have felt like a passenger in your own supports, it does not have to be that way. The right team hands you the wheel and stays alongside for the journey.
